Mike Farbelow (born March 30, 1963 in Saint Paul, Minnesota) is an American curler who was skip of the silver medal-winning rink at the 2010 U.S. Men's Championships, where they lost the gold medal match to the rink led by Pete Fenson, who picked up his sixth title (Fenson's brother Eric served as vice skip on Farbelow's rink[1]). It was Farbelow's fourth trip to the U.S. championships and his first medal finish;[2] three of their five losses in the tournament were to Fenson. Farbelow had previously led his rink to a fifth-place finish in 2009, when he was the winner of the Ann Brown Sportsmanship Award. A resident of Minneapolis, his previous nationals appearances came in 1985 and 1998, and he served as alternate on Team Jacobson at the 2011 Championships. Farbelow also skipped the 2007 National Club Champions, the 1985 Minnesota State Champions[3] on which his older brother Willy served as second, and the 1981 and 1983 Minnesota Junior Champions.[4] His father Bill Farbelow (1938–2001) served as national technical director of the U.S. Curling Association in the 1990s;[5] 2010 Olympian John Benton, a former teammate of Mike's, credits both Farbelows as being among his mentors.[6]
