Mike Blazo

Michael Blazo (January 30, 1917 - April 24, 1988) was a minor league baseball player and manager.

Playing career

Blazo played 12 seasons as catcher in the minors, hitting around .247 in 1011 games^[1].

Managing career

Blazo managed for eight seasons. His first foray into managing occurred in 1938, with the Newport Cardinals. He replaced Thorpe Hamilton and managed for part of the season. He next managed in 1941, for the Fargo-Moorhead Twins. That year, he replaced Wes Griffin, and in 1942 he was replaced by Ben Tincup. In 1946, he managed the Middletown Rockets and from 1947 to 1950, he managed the Muncie Reds. He managed the Welch Miners in 1951 and the Salisbury Reds^[2] for part of 1957, before being replaced by Dick Porter.

Although he never led a team to a first place finish or to a league championship, he did lead his team to the playoffs a couple times. In 1947, the Muncie Reds lost in the first round of the playoffs. In 1948, the made it to the league finals, losing that series. In 1949, they again made it to - and lost - in the league finals.
