Music career

Early work

Mikael Bolyos started his career in the typical Swedish danceband "Rospiggarna". Together with the leadsinger Roger Pontare, he formed the duo "Stars'N'Bars". Playing soul, funk and rhythm and blues on synthesizers, drum machines and percussion. They recorded two singles and were touring in Sweden heavily.[1]

The duo's first single released in Sweden in 1979 on Moonshine records was "Give me a break", the b-side of this 12" single was "Stars and bars". The single was recorded the same year at KMH in Stockholm. Mixed at Polar Music by the legendary Olle Ramm. The second 7" single produced by the duo was "Sky-Why" with "Co-Co" on the b-side released in 1982.[1][2]

In May 1982, Mikael, at that time his name was written as Michael, released on Polar Music his first 7" single — "Gå tillbaks till gå", the b-side was "Tjata, tjata, tjata".

Mikael kept on recording and touring with various Swedish artists such as: Tomas Ledin, Pugh Rogefeldt, Lustans Lakejer and Robert Wells. "I always enjoyed the studio work" Mikael says.[1]

Thus, in 1982, Mikael Bolyos participated in the recording of the "C´est la vie" single by the Swedish rock musician Janne Goldman. Mikael played the keyboards in the said single.

The same year Mikael took part in the recording of the "Kärleken Är Som En Studsande Boll" single by Tomas Ledin. Together with Ledin, Mikael played the keyboards in the said single. The single was included on Gränslös album that Tomas Ledin released the same year.

In 1982, Tomas Ledin also released his album The human touch where Mikael played the keyboards on all 10 tracks.

In 1983, Mikael appeared with Agnetha Fältskog in the Swedish movie P&B. He played the keyboards and sang the backup vocals on this No.1 Swedish film event.[3]

In November 1983 Totte Wallin released his single Jag hatar mitt jobb where Mikael Bolyos also played the keyboards.

In January 1984, Mikael took part in recording of the Barbariets eleganter LP by another Swedish music band Eldkvarn. He played the piano on two songs: "Mitt i hjärtat" and "I natt".

In July 1984, Mikael Bolyos released his second 7" single — "Aldri Mer", the b-side was "Jag tycker om dej".[4] The song was recorded in 1983 on Polar Music and the song became little of a radio hit. Jonas Isacsson played the guitar.

The same year Micke played the grand piano in the Lustavision album released by the Swedish band Lustans Lakejer. Here, Bolyos took part in recording of "If only for a moment",[5] the closing track of the album.

In 1984, Bolyos played the keaboards on the Tropicana record released by the Swedish band Kicks.

Mikael Bolyos together with Göran Rydh and Lasse Johnsson created a trio called Spargo. Together they released their first 7" single "Du finns i mig" with "Ge mig en chans" on b-side on Polar Music in November 1984.[6] Both songs were written by Bolyos.

As there was a Dutch band called Spargo, the boys had to change the name for Zpargo. The trio released their second 7" single in May 1985. The a-side was "Bara en på tusen" with "Känner du" on b-side of the single.[6]

The same year, Mikael took part in the recording of the album Ögon man aldrig glömmer released by Swedish female singer Susanne Alfvengren.

In 1985, the Swedish band Kicks released their LP Erotik & panik. Mikael Bolyos played the keaboards on the lead track.

Lustans Lakejer released their new album called Sinnenas rike. Again Mikael played the keyboards on "Solen har sin gång".

In 1987, Swedish artist and dancer Blossom Tainton released her 12" single called "Let Go" arranged by Michael Bolyos.

The same year Mikael together with the Swedish-Italian singer, dancer, producer and songwriter Emilio Ingrosso produced the 7" and 12" single "I Need Your Love" by the Swedish pop singer Pernilla Wahlgren.

In 1988, Mikael produced the song "Love Is Coming Our Way (Instrumental Version)" by Pernilla Wahlgren which was released as a b-side to the "Pure Dynamite" 7" single.

The same year Mikael together with Emilio Ingrosso produced the "Running For Cover" 7" and 12" single by Pernilla Wahlgren.

Mikael Bolyos also co-operated with Robert Wells on the album "The way I feel". Together they wrote the song "Sweet Georgia rap".

In 1991, Mikael Bolyos, Anders Gustavson and Tomas Grönberg wrote the song "Tuffa takter!" which was released as a single by SK Triangeln at Grönberg studios in Stockholm.

In 1992, Bolyos together with Rodney Öhman and David Kreuger wrote the song "Who can really love you" which was released on a promo single by the Swedish band Sweet Thing featuring Roger Pontare.

Melodifestivalen and meeting with Marie Fredriksson

By the time he met his future wife Marie Fredriksson from the pop duo Roxette, Mikael was already running his own studio in Stockholm.

In 1993, Mikael Bolyos and Örjan Strandberg wrote a song called "Välkommen till livet", which was sung by Christer Björkman in the Swedish qualifying tournament for the Melodifestivalen contest. Unfortunately, the song did not get the final of this contest[7]

In 1992, while travelling around Australia on a trip, Mikael met Marie Fredriksson of Roxette, who was there promoting the "Joyride" with gigs of the first leg of the "Join The Joyride Tour". Since he knew some members of the Roxette band, Mikael came to visit them one day. Marie and Mikael had met before, but this time it was love at first sight and they were soon engaged. In November–December 1992, Marie Fredriksson went to a short solo tour to promote the release of her fourth solo album "Den ständiga resan", the first time that Marie performed live together with her future husband Mikael Bolyos.

On July 24, 1992, Mikael together with Marie Fredriksson and his band Army of Covers performed the songs "Jealous Guy", "The Letter", "Rockin' All Over the World" and "Twist and Shout" in Varlberg at KG 26.

Six days later, on July 30, 1992, Army of Covers featuring Marie Fredriksson performed the songs "Ain't No Sunshine", "The Letter", "Can't Get Enough",[disambiguation needed ] "Whatever You Want" and "Twist and Shout" in Halmstad at Hotel Mårtenson.

Marie and Mikael had been together for less than a year when she became pregnant. Even though they had not been together very long, the pregnancy was planned and very much wanted. Inez Josefin Bolyos was born on April 29, 1993, about two weeks earlier than expected. She was named Inez after Marie's mother, but she is always called Josefin. Before the first photograph of the baby was printed in newspapers at the beginning of June, almost no Swedish newspaper or magazine had published any article about the happy event.[8]

Marie Fredriksson and Mikael Bolyos were married in Östra Ljungby kyrka on May 21, 1994, in the presence of only 40 invited guests. Marie and Mikael decided to have a small wedding, which meant that they wanted only very close relatives to attend. Not even Marie's musical partner Per Gessle and his wife, Åsa, were invited. The reason for this is that Marie and Mikael wanted to have a family celebration and boundaries had to be made somewhere.[9]

The first joint work by Mikael and Marie became creation of the song called "Herren ber för dig" (English: The Lord is praying for you), which the couple together composed and produced. "Herren ber för dig" was originally only available on the 2-CD compilation album "Vilda Fåglar - Sånger Om Barn" but it was later included on the 5th CD of the 6-CD box-set "Kärlekens Guld" in 2002.[10]

On July 2, 1995, Mikael together with Marie Fredriksson and his band Sugarcane performed the songs "Ain't No Sunshine", "Love Is A Beautiful Thing" and "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby" in Penny Lane in Halmstad.

On July 30, 1995, Sugarcane featuring Marie Fredriksson performed the songs "Ain't No Sunshine", "Crazy 'bout You", "Snatching It Back" and "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby" in Penny Lane, Halmstad.

During summer 1996 Sugarcane performed four times in Penny Lane in Halmstad. They performed the songs "Say A Little Prayer" and "See-Saw" on the first concert and "Crazy 'bout You" and "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby" on the next three concerts.

In 1996 Marie released her fifth solo album "I en tid som vår (English: In a time like ours). Micke took the direct participation in the recording of this album: he played the electric guitar, keyboards, organ, piano, synthesizers. Mikael also was involved in programming and producing of the album.[11]

On November 26, 1996, Marie and Mikael again became happy parents. Marie gave birth to their second child Oscar Mikael Bolyos.

In 1998, Swedish artist and songwriter Jessica released her first solo album "Jessica". Mikael Bolyos played the piano on the fourth track of the album called "Goodbye".[12]

In March 1999, Roxette recorded their song "Better Off On Her Own" at Vinden Studion in Djursholm. Mikael Bolyos was one of the engineers of this song. He, together with Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, mixed the song at the same studio. The song was included on Roxette's single "Stars" and later on the four track bonus EP of their compilation album The Pop Hits.

On March 31, 2000, Marie released a greatest hits album — "Äntligen—Marie Fredriksson Bästa (1984—2000)". The producer of the 1, 2 and from 15 to 17 tracks became Mikael Bolyos. Micke also played the keyboards and horns, and he also participated as a backing vocalist. Mikael was also responsible for the programming and producing of this album.[13]

Present days

In 2002, Marie and Mikael started working on Fredriksson's new album, where she decided to write and release the songs in English. Mikael Bolyos wrote some of the songs on this album. The new album was called "The Change". Again as on the previous albums released by Marie, Mikael participated in the recording of this album.[14]

In 2003, Mikael Bolyos played the piano on the record "Autograph" which was released by Svante Karlsson at Leco Music Division.

In conjunction with the release of "The Change", Marie Fredriksson together with Micke Bolyos started a new publishing company. MaryJane Music was mainly created "as a home for Marie's solo albums," states the label's website, "but as the musical collaboration between Marie and Mikael continues and expands, don't be surprised if you find other exciting projects with some of their musical friends released on this label."[15]

On June 14, 2006, Marie released her new solo album — Min bästa vän.[16] Mikael played the electric guitars, keyboards, organ, piano, and synthesizers. He also arranged and produced this album.

On April 5, 2007, Mikael released the digital variant of his brand new single — "When The Lord Is About To Come".[17] The song was placed on a Marie Fredriksson's fan Web-site.[18]

Mikael Bolyos celebrated his 50th anniversary on April 6, 2007.

On May 25, 2007, Mikael released the digital variant of his second solo single — "Me & My Guitar".[19][20] Again the song was placed on a Marie Fredriksson's fan Web-site.[21]

The cover of "A family affair" album

"A family affair" is his first solo album.[22] He called it "A family affair" for two reasons. First, because his wife Marie (Fredriksson)[23] participated with some of his old musician friends that for many years, certainly have been like a family to him. Among them is Mats Ronander, Staffan Astner and Pelle Alsing. Secondly, several of his lyrics was about how their lives were dictated by their childhood, and the family they grew up with. The album "A Family Affair" was released on June 14, 2007[1]

In the late November 2007, Marie Fredriksson released her second compilation album "Tid för tystnad - Marie Fredrikssons ballader".[24] Mikael Bolyos composed the music for "Ordet är farväl" while Py Bäckman wrote the lyrics. Mikael also played the keyboards on "Ett bord i solen" and produced both songs.
