A parliamentary election was held in the Federated States of Micronesia on 3 March 2009. Only non-partisan candidates were elected for the fourteen seats; Micronesia has no established political parties.

The Honolulu, Hawaii-based East-West Center sent a team of twenty election observers from various nations around the Pacific Rim.^[1] Among the observers is American Samoa's non-voting congressional representative, Eni Faleomavaega. The Center said that "the mission will prepare an assessment report that contains an analysis of the 2009 election results and recommendations for ways to enhance the quality of future elections."^[1]
