Michaelangelo "Mike" Volpi (1966 - living) is a high-tech executive known for leading Cisco System's business development, acquiring over 70 companies in less than five years.[1]

Background

Born and lived in Milan, Italy until he was five. Family moved to Tokyo where he lived until he come to Stanford University at 17. Graduated with a bachelors and masters of mechanical engineering from Stanford. Returned to Stanford for his MBA after a few years at HP where he was both in engineering and in marketing.[2] While at HP, he met his future wife Toni C. Cupal.[3]

Career at Cisco

Joining Cisco in 1994 he was soon promoted to leading acquisitions at Cisco starting in April 1996. During his tenure 75 deals were done, including a nearly $7B acquisition of Scientic Atlanta.[7] Further promotion to Chief Strategy Office working for CEO John Chambers until 2000. Considered to be heir apparent to CEO John Chambers.[8][9]

Moving into an operational role as a SVP/GM he led the Routing and Switching teams, then co-led the Routing and Service Provider group with Prem Jain until 2007.[10]

After Cisco
