Michael T. Clanchy is a Professor Emeritus of Medieval History at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London, and a Fellow of the British Academy.
He has taught at the University of Glasgow, and is well known for his books, such as From Memory to Written Record (a study of the triumph of literacy in medieval England), Abelard: A Medieval Life, and England and its Rulers 1066-1272. His interests are primarily in law and government in the 12th and 13th century. He is the Patron of the London Medieval Society.[1]
Clanchy appeared on In Our Time on BBC Radio 4 on May 2009, on a programme about Magna Carta and King John.[2]
