The Mercantile Marine Academy or Bangladesh Marine Academy is a marine academy in Chittagong, Bangladesh. It is the only university of its kind in the country and was established in 1962. The academy is situated overlooking the Bay of Bengal from the hill tops of Juldia on the east bank of the Karnafuli River, about 20 kilometres south of the Chittagong city.
The academy has also been recognized as one of the branches of the World Maritime University ( WMU ), Malmo, Sweden in 1989 and Bangladesh was placed on the White list in the year 2000.[1]

Courses
The Marine Academy provides the following courses:
Pre-sea courses
- Pre-Sea Nautical Science – 2 years in the Academy and 1 year at Sea.
- Pre-Sea Marine Engineering - 2 years in the Academy (Phase – I), 6 months at Sea (Phase-II), and 6 months in the Academy (Phase-III)
- Bachelor of Maritime Science (Nautical) degree course – 2 years in the academy under National University (Simultaneously with the Pre-Sea Nautical Studies)
- Bachelor of Maritime Science (Engineering) degree course – 2 years in the academy under National University (Simultaneously with the Pre-Sea Marine Engineering [Phase-I])
Basic training courses
- Fire prevention and fire fighting (FRFF)
- Personal survival techniques (PST)
- Elementary first aid (EFA)
- Personal safety and social responsibilities (PSSR)
Post sea courses
- Officer in charge of a Navigational Watch (IMO Model course 7.03)- 4 Months.
- Engineer Officer in charge of a Watch (IMO Model course 7.04) - 4 Months
