Mendix is a Information technology Information Technology company which has developed a Platform as a Service tool called the Mendix Agile Business Platform. The platform tool helps teams plan, develop, deploy and manage custom applications that integrate with existing systems. By providing a way to collaborate effectively, speed up development, and harness feedback from end users, the Mendix platform gives organizations the business agility they need to stay ahead of the competition.

  • Reduce time-to-market by at least 6 times at ½ the cost
  • Gain instant flexibility to respond changing business requirements
  • Enhance collaboration between business and IT

A benchmark study measured the effectiveness of Mendix vs. traditional means of software development. The project was completed 6x as fast in Mendix.

Vision

Initially built on personal frustration with the rigidity of enterprise software and traditional development tools and techniques, we envisioned a world in which businesses could respond to new opportunities and changing business requirements without being limited by rigid existing systems or high-risk, lengthy custom development projects.

Mendix agile platform is built upon 3 pillars

  • Speed: reduce time-to-market of new apps and business initiatives by at least 5x (naturally resulting in reduced cost and risk)
  • Flexibility: respond to new insights and changing business requirements when needed (allowing rapid prototyping and agile development)
  • Ease-of-use: simplify and reduce technical complexity in such a way that Business Analysts can do much of the work

A late change in requirements is a competitive advantage and Mendix seeks to allow business decision makers the type of flexibility which enables them to increase the competitive value of their business by leveraging off IT systems and development that shorten the development cycle and deliver high quality solutions to meet the business demand at that time.

Mendix Agile Business Platform

Mendix's core product, the Mendix Agile Business Platform, enables business change by simplifying collaboration between business and IT. Mendix’s Agile Business Platform™ is an enterprise-class Platform as a service, Platform-as-a-Service solution for agile application lifecycle management in the cloud- it rapidly develops, deploys and manages enterprise applications that smoothly integrate with existing systems.

Mendix is a platform as a service solution whereby Mendix business engineers model an agile enterprise solution for the business using an easy to understand Business Process Modeling Notation BPMN BPMN which the modeler will interpret deploy as a compiled and functional J2EE application. With the launch of Mendix 3.0 it is possible to then deploy the modeled solution to a cloud service with a single button click.

Mendix delivers working solutions 5 to 10 times faster than traditional and currently widely adopted development practices as well as looks to connect the current disconnect that is currently in place between business decision makers.

History

Mendix was created from research performed by the leadership of the company to determine why IT projects have such a high failure rate and struggle to match the flexibility required by business during a normal business life cycle. Since launching in 2005 Mendix has received a number of awards and seen a 237% growth in first half of 2011 as compared to the same half of 2010. Mendix has also been recognized as a Gartner Cool Vendor
