The Mellis and Eye Railway built the Eye Branch. It opened in 1867 and the line was finally closed in 1964.

History

Authorised by Act of Parliament on 5 July 1865, the Mellis and Eye Railway (M&ER) formally opened on 1 April 1867, with regular services beginning the next day. From the outset the line was operated by the Great Eastern Railway (GER) but was unremunerative. On 1 July 1898 the GER obtained authorisation to absorb the M&ER and so it was as part of the GER that the line became part of the London and North Eastern Railway at the 1923 Grouping. Passenger services ceased on 2 February 1931, with freight services continuing until 13 July 1964. The line was later dismantled.[1][2]
