- Mehriye
-
Mehriye is a Persian custom which directly translates to "Out of love".
It is a supposedly a gift out of love. The amount for this is usually decided before the wedding. It is to be given the Wife-to-be at any point that she demands it.
Note that this is opposite of the Indian dowry which is given by the bride to the groom at time of their wedding.
