Mechtilde of the Blessed Sacrament (birth name Catherine de Bar, 1614–1698), was born at at Saint-Dié, Lorraine in northeastern France. At first an Annunciade nun and then a Benedictine, in 1654 she founded the Order of the Benedictines of the Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in Paris. This was the first society formally organized for the Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament[1][2][3]
