Maynard Pirsig (1902-1997) was an American legal scholar and academic. Educated at the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota Law School[1], he was Professor and Dean of Law at Minnesota from 1948 to 1955. He was later Professor of Law at the William Mitchell College of Law[2]. He had one of the longest careers of any legal academic[3].

Deanship at Minnesota
Pirsig improved the reputation of the University of Minnesota Law School by hiring a number of notable scholars, including Charles Alan Wright, Michael I. Sovern, and Jesse Dukeminier.[citation needed]
Minnesota Supreme Court
Pirsig served briefly as a Justice on the Minnesota Supreme Court. He was appointed by Governor Harold Stassen.[citation needed]
Personal Life
Pirsig was born in Iowa and is the father of Robert M. Pirsig.[4]
