Mauricio Wiesenthal (born November 28, 1943, in Barcelona) is a Spanish writer. His prolific and diverse output included fiction, biography, history, poetry, biography, literary and art criticism, including medicine and œnology. Mauricio Wiesenthal has been professor of Cultural History in the Escuela Superior de Comercio in Cádiz and honorary professor in several universities (Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo, Universidad de Deusto). He has collaborated in diverses encyclopedias and encyclopedic dictionaries (Diccionario Universal Salvat, Enciclopedia Danae, Enciclopedia Universitas) and has directed several of them (Diccionario Enciclopédico Hachette; Viajar por Europa, Multilibros 1990; Enciclopedia del Vino Orbis y Enciclopedia Hachette-Salvat del Vino). He is the author of books about pre-Columbian cultures of America (Yucatan and the Maya Civilization,1979, New York, Crescent Books; Peru and the Inca Civilization, New York, Crescent 1979). Also, is the author of guides and travel books -published in English, French, Italian and German- and several books of medical literature. In 1992, Mauricio Wiesenthal was awarded with the Gold Cup of the Oenologists of Catalonia.
