Matthew Sergeant

Matthew Sergeant (b.1984 in Newport, Wales) is a British composer.

Described by Simon Holt as 'a bright young critter',[1] Matthew Sergeant is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Matthew Sergeant’s work has been commissioned and/or performed by many leading performers and ensembles, including: the house of bedlam,[2] Chamber Domaine, the BBC Singers, the BBC Concert Orchestra, ensemble 10/10, BCMG (Birmingham Contemporary Music Group) (with whom he held an artistic residency during 2008-09[3]) and the London Symphony Orchestra. His music also has been programmed as part of the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and The Cutting Edge Series 2008 (at the BMIC Warehouse in London).[4] A former member of the SPNM Composer Shortlist, Matthew is also the recipient of a silver medal from London's Worshipful Company of Musicians and his music has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3.[5]

Matthew is currently a research student at the University of Huddersfield where his tutors include Bryn Harrison and Liza Lim.
