Matthew Black (Kilmarnock[1] (3 September 1908 - 2 October 1994) was a Scottish biblical scholar. He was the first editor of New Testament Studies. [2]
Black joined the team of Kurt Aland, Bruce Metzger, and Allen Wikgren to work on the UBS Greek New Testament.[3]
He is also noted, in his An Aramaic Approach to the Gospels and Acts, for being one of the few mainstream scholars to advocate an Aramaic urtext behind some of the Gospels.
