- Maspiro Massacre
-
On the 9th of October, 2011 there was a peaceful protest held by almost 10,000 people; most of these were Copts but some Muslim supporters were present as well. They were surrounded by Egyptian Army soldiers and tanks, when suddenly random gun shots were fired and a Massacre took place and Egyptian Army tanks started to move and ran over civilians. Live ammunition was fired randomly by Army soldiers, killing 27 and injuring more than 350. There were armed thugs in between the chaos, hired to attack the protesters. Some witnesses say they were hired by the Army, and soldiers let them pass with their weapons to attack. A scene very similar to Mawqe'at Al Gamal that happened during the 18 days of Protests in Tahrir, only this time the Army wasn't passive. The Egyptian Army was the violator, the killer.[1][2]
Maspiro is famous for the false news it broadcasts, and during the events of the Maspiro Massacre. TV broadcaster Rasha Magdy, said that the Christian protestors were attacking the army, and "called for help from all fellow Egyptians who cherish the Egyptian army to go to the streets and save the Army from the armed Christians!" This is a blatant call for civil war, and in fact the opposite was happening with Egyptian Army attacking the civilians. On 10 October, a massive protest was held in Ramsis St. Protestors Christians and Muslims marched to the cathedral in Abbassiyah on Monday to mourn the death of the Murdered Copts [3]
One of the Martyrs was Mina Danielle, a revolutionary who took part in the 2011 Egyptian Revolution January 25, January 28, and February 2 "Battle of the Camel." He was wounded several times during the winter uprisings, but survived only to be killed in at Maspiro.
