Martin Berteau (bapt. Valenciennes, 3 February 1691?[1] - Angers, 22 January 1771), cellist, cello teacher and composer, is generally regarded as the founder of the French school of cello. He numbered among his pupils Jean-Pierre Duport, "the Elder" (1741-1818).
