Martin Bartlett is a fictional character in the Australian soap opera Home and Away, portrayed by Bob Baines.

Character

Martin Bartlett is the current Principal of Summer Bay High. He previously worked there as a science teacher for years, though we hadn't seen him before hand. Martin is quite strict, and doesn't allow anything bad to go on in the school. But however he has a soft side he deeply cares for his students and help's Melody get out of touble with Law.

We first saw Martin when Sally Fletcher introduced him as the new deputy, replacing the departing Donald Fisher but when Sally was hospitalised following her second stabbing at the hands of Johnny Cooper, he got her job and hired Jazz Curtis as his secretary, who was blackmailing him, because she saw him at the illegal fight Ric Dalby was involved in. He then sacked Jazz.

Storylines

Martin recently has hired Kirsty Phillips as his secretary at the school. Martin has been helping her out, and even took the blame for Oliver breaking his arm, when Annie Campbell and Jai Fernandez were supposed to be looking after him, when a social worker turned up. Martin has started to develop feelings for Kirsty, and is to reveal that he was brought up by just his mother. When he realized Kirsty was with Miles, he three-struck Kirsty and fired her, but his reference still helped her land a job at Sands Resort. But Miles did not know that Martin had nothing to do with being an escort there, so Miles confronted Martin.

Making a pass at Kirsty

Martin was involved in a big storyline surrounding Kirsty Phillips and Miles Copeland. Martin fancied Kirsty and after several times, he tried to make a pass at her until she had a go at him. He sacked her from the school, but he soon learnt the error of his ways.

Secretly paying Kirsty money

Martin was secretly paying Kirsty money, as she had gone to him for a loan several times. Miles found out and angrily confronted Martin, who told Miles the full story.

The formal

Martin was involved in the 2008 season finale. He was at the formal in the community hall, when Kane's car ploughed through the wall. When the 2009 season returned, Martin is trying to keep order with the panicking teenagers trapped inside. Martin got knocked to the ground, and got fractured ribs as a result. He got out of the building.

The Trek

Martin arranged a school trek in memory of Dan Baker, for some of the student's to take part in. He wasn't very happy when Jai and Annie went missing. And to top it all, Trey held the rest of the students on the coach hostage by planting a bomb underneath, which later defused by Hugo and Martha.

Long Service Leave

Martin has taken some leave, due to recent events. He told Miles he was tired and is going to go on a cruise for a few weeks. Martin appointed Gina Austin into his role at the school.
