Career
He is one of the UK's best known basketball journalists as well as one of the foremost writers on cricket in Scotland, contributing to a number of newspapers including The Sun, The Guardian, Scotland on Sunday, Chicago Tribune and The Sunday Mail.
He is currently a reporter and commentator for the BBC, working for BBC Radio Five Live. He also appears on Sky Sports' basketball coverage and has reported on the NFL for ESPN. He also is assistant editor of MVP Magazine.
From 2006-07, he was a presenter and Sports Editor of talk 107 at its launch, hosting 'Super Saturday Sport'.[1] He was formerly Scottish correspondent for talkSPORT before moving on to become an occasional presenter on Radio Scotland.
Previously, he was a beat reporter on the now defunct Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe. He was hugely critical of their decision to close the team down despite its large fan base and was one of the few journalists present at the announcement.[2]
After graduating from the University of Dundee, Woods began covering basketball for a number of newspapers including The Scotsman and The Express. From 1996 until it ceased in 2004, he was publisher and editor of Britball, the UK game's main publication on the sport, while he also contributed to now defunct magazines Slam Dunk, XXL and FIBA Basketball Monthly.
Other work
He spent 1999-2000 looking after the media relations of the Claymores but returned full-time to journalism thereafter.
Away from sport, Woods has contributed to books on international trade and frequently writes on the business of media.
Trivia
- His favourite NFL team is the Chicago Bears, despite covering NFL Europe before the Scottish Claymores were disbanded.[3]
