public property . Public tree maintenance is usually a municipal responsibility. Some municipal governments demand that abuttingprivate property owners maintain the public sidewalks.Some advantages of tree lawns include: aesthetics, increased safety and comfort of sidewalk users, protection of sidewalk users from the splash and spray of passing vehicles during inclement weather, storage area for snow plowed off the street, and room for benches, bus shelters, street lights and other amenities.
The term tree lawn is used in areas of Cleveland, Ohio, and Terre Haute, Indiana, among others. The term parkway is used in the Chicago, Illinois area.
