Occupation Deputy Revenue Director Religion Catholic Mark Gilstrap was part of the Democratic Party as a member of the Kansas Senate, representing the 5th District (1998–2008). On December 10, 2008, Gilstrap changed his party affiliation after the Democratic Party backed his opponent, Kelly Kultala, in the primary. Since the 2008 election, Gilstrap has worked in campaigning for Republican Secretary of State elect Kris Kobach. Kobach participated in writing the Immigration Law. Gilstrap has also campaigned for current Kansas Senator and Kansas Governor elect Sam Brownback.
