Marjatta Moulin Personal information Born 23 November 1926
Mänttä, FinlandSport Sport Fencing Marjatta Moulin ne'e Heimolainen (born 23 November 1926) is a Finnish fencer. She competed in the women's individual foil event at the 1960 Summer Olympics.[1]
Coming from an athletic family of seven children, she was exposed to an all-round sports participation and was competing in swimming, diving, tennis, equestrian show-jumping and even acrobatics. One of Marjatta Moulin's older sisters, Aune Heimolainen, held the Finnish marc for free style smimming in the longest distances for a record number of years in the 1940s-1950s and won several Finnish and Nordic medals.
Moulin came into fencing relatively late in terms of age. Nevertheless, between 1955 and 1972 she won eight individual Finnish championships in foil (at the time the only fencing style for women) and led her club, Helsingfors faktare-Helsingin miekkailijat (HFM) to more than 25 Finnish team championships from the mid-1950s to the 1980s. She also won two Scandinavian individual championships and placed well in international competition. She represented Finland in the 1960 Rome Olympics.
Moulin's fencing interest was largely awakened by the Helsinki Olympics in 1952 and the short-term residency in Helsinki and access to coaching and fencing lessons from two world renowned fencing champions and masters, Christian d'Oriola and Edoardo Alaimo. Moulin married Paul Moulin (born in July 1917, St. Petersburg/Petrograd as Prince Paul Esperovitch Belosselsky-Belozersky; died November 2005) who was also active in organizational and admistrational functions at the club level and nationally in Finnish fencing. Paul's father Esper Constantinovich Belosselsky-Belozersky won a bronze medal in 1912 Stockholm Olympics in sailing 10 meter class. Marjatta Moulin is still actively following Finnish fencing. She has a son, Paul Christian Moulin (born 1948).
