as of 29 December 2009Mariama Signate (born 22 July 1985) is a French handball player. She plays for the Danish handball club Aalborg DH and for the French national team.
Career
Signate made her debut on the French national team in October 2004, in a match in Germany against the Norwegian team. In December 2004 she participated at the 2004 European Women's Handball Championship in Hungary, where the French team placed 11th. In 2004 she also achieved a 4th place reprecenting France at the European Junior Championship in the Chech Republic. In 2005 she participated at the Mediterranean Games in Almeria, placing 4th with the French team. She participated at the 2007 World Women's Handball Championship in France, where France finished 5th.[1] She represented France at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, where France finished 5th.[2] In 2009 she won a gold medal at the Mediterranean Games in Italy.[1] She participated at the 2009 World Women's Handball Championship in China,[3] where the French team won the silver medal (behind gold winner Russia),[1] and Signate was selected into the all-star team of the tournament (as left back).[4]
Signate has represented the club HBC Nîmes since August 2008. With HBC Nîmes she won the Women's EHF Challenge Cup in the 2008/2009 season, before the German club Thüringer HC. The club reached the final in the French Coupe de la Ligue in 2008. Her former clubs were Toulon, on which she played from 1990 to 2003, the club Le Havre from 2003 to 2005, and then the club Fleury les Aubrais, on which she played from 2005 to 2008.[1] As of December 2009 she has appeared on the French national team 76 times, and scored 218 goals.[1] In the summer 2010 she transferred to Aalborg DH in Denmark.[5]
