- Ely to Peterborough Line
The Ely to Peterborough Line is a railway line in the
United Kingdom , linkingEast Anglia to theMidlands . Passenger services are provided byCrossCountry ,East Midlands Trains andNational Express East Anglia . The line serves the following places (Ordnance Survey grid references for stations):Most trains continue beyond Peterborough to
Leicester andBirmingham (via the Peterborough-Birmingham line), or toNottingham ,Sheffield ,Manchester andLiverpool .On the other side, most trains continue beyond Ely to
Norwich or toCambridge andStansted Airport (joining in one direction or in the other the Cambridge-Norwich "Breckland" Line) or toIpswich .The line is used extensively by freight trains. The railway yard at March has recently been reopened.
The line is not electrified, unlike surrounding lines.
