Manie Maritz (1876–1940) was a Boer General during the Second Boer War and a leading rebel of the 1914 Boer Revolt.[1]
Maritz was born in Kimberly and christened Salmon Gerhardus Maritz and also known as Gerrit Maritz.[1]
After the Second Boer War Maritz served in the South African Army, but at the start of World War I he rose in revolt against the South African government, allied himself to the Germans and was a leading member of the Boer Revolt in 1914.
He died in Pretoria on 19 December 1940.[1]
