Malina (Serbian Cyrillic: Малина) was depopulated settlement between Bileća and Trebinje in Herzegovina (Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina).

Location

Malina is today uninhabited location near road BilećaTrebinje, in Bilećke Rudine area. Malina was located within borders of commune Zajrečje in the beginning of 20th century. Today it's within borders of village Žudojevići. Malina was located in valley, surrounded with hills on three sides. Location of this former settlement was hidden and convenient for living in past. Above Malina is located Malinska Gradina hill, with altitude 720 m. Malina is located south east from Malinska Gradina.[1]

Near Malina is located Malinski potok stream. It springs in Malina valley, south west of Žudojevići. Malinski potok is short, but in autumn it has enough power, to constantly keep mill wheels moving. This stream don't dries up during summer times. Inhabitants of Žudojevići and Skrobotno made pipes for water supply from Malinski potok spring. [2]

Antiquities

There are several antiquities preserved in area of former settlement Malina. Among them, there are few old grave monuments. They are rectangle shaped and often with images. Patches on grave monuments represent people and animal images, crescents, and some of them – bows and arrows. There are no preserved inscriptions on these monuments. [3]

In Malina are preserved foundations and other remains of old houses. It is exact spot of the old, depopulated settlement Malina. At that location have lived families of clan Maleševci. It is near spring of Malinski potok stream. At Malina are still remains of old stones, which represented border walls of parcels. Hill name Malinska gradina shows, that on this location was „gradina“ (remains of old fortress). On location between Malina and Preslo is location called Gomila (Serbian word for tumuli). At that location are few prehistoric tumuli.

About history of the settlement

Malina is mentioned in census of Herzegovina, dated in year 1475/77. In this source Malina is mentioned, along with neighboring Skrobotno („Skrobodna“), as winter shepard settlement. Leader of shepard community (džemat) of Malina and some of close settlements was in 1475/77. Radan son of Novak. This community had 25 homes and 3 homes of unmarried men at that time. Their summer settlement was in Koročica. In 1475/77. Malina was administratively within nahia Rudine. [4]

Malina was place of origin of Maleševci clan. Member of this clan started to emigrate from this settlement during the 15th century. In Skrobotno was mentioned one branch of this clan in 15th century. It is not known, that any of families ever lived in Malina, besides families descending from Maleševci clan.
