MajorGeeks.com is a website that provides shareware and freeware downloads for Windows and Macintosh, as well as a friendly support forum. Although a wide range of software is provided, there is a particular emphasis on systems utilities, security, protection, and tools to improve computer performance.

The site was originally launched as TweakFiles in 1997, but has been known as MajorGeeks since 2000.

In August 2007, MajorGeeks.com was listed on PC Magazine's "Top 100 Undiscovered Web Sites". [1] On 1 November 2010, the site had a three-month global Alexa traffic rank of 4,020.

Support forums

The support forums are appropriate for all age groups, and are moderated to remove spam and inappropriate content by a dedicated group of volunteers. They are also designed to help people of all skill levels.

Novice users are able to post in the Welcome Center [1] to get used to the forums.

The Malware Removal forum [2] is one of the most frequently accessed forums. Many of its moderators are Microsoft MVPs. It is also run by a small group of volunteers who follow a strict guideline to help remove malware.[2] People seeking help are assisted in order as quickly as possible. Only moderators can reply in the malware forum, making it highly reliable.

As of 15 November 2010, the support forums had 221,856 members and almost 1,150,000 posts.[2]

Malware Testing and Quality Assurance

According to MajorGeeks, ever since the site's original launch in 1997, all software products listed have been tested for viruses and spyware as well as quality. Downloads were fully tested even before malware became a global problem, so that testing for malware was an automatic transition.[3]

Majorgeeks is not corporate-owned and nor does it own any offices. It has always been maintained by the two site owners. [3] The readers tend to be diligent and assist in correcting any mistakes, similar to Wikipedia. The site owners' aim has always been to keep advertising low and quality high. Most submissions to Majorgeeks are rejected, since the site only lists tools for the PC and Mac.

Site content

Over time, MajorGeeks has expanded beyond its original offering of performance enhancement tools into multimedia, graphics, toys and other software.
