Mairi Campbell
Mairi Campbell is a Scottish singer and musician, born and raised in Edinburgh. Together with partner Dave Francis she forms traditional music group The Cast. Mairi is also the musical director of Sangstream, a folk song choir based in Edinburgh. On top of this, she is taking part in several other musical projects, such as playing viola with different ensembles and teaching the fiddle.[1] Mairi released her self titled debut album in May 2011.[2]

Mairi has been much praised for her singing voice and musical skills, and has won several prizes. During the Scots Trad Music Awards in 2007 she was named Scots Singer of the Year,[3] and in 2008 she won the Live Ireland Music Award for Best Female Musician of the Year, as well as the award for Best Composition of the Year.[4]
"Auld Lang Syne" in Sex and the City
The most well-known recording of Mairi's voice is probably The Cast's rendition of Robert Burns poem "Auld Lang Syne", which is featured on the soundtrack of 2008 hit film Sex and the City. Presumably, actress Sarah Jessica Parker remembered hearing The Cast performing the song at the Kennedy Center Honors in 1999 (honouring fellow Scot Sean Connery), and then suggested the song would be part of the film's soundtrack. The song can be heard during the New Years scene of the film, accompanying a montage of the main characters' doings and beings on the crucial night.[5]
