Route description

Route 25 Business begins at the intersection of William Clarke Drive (Route 25), Main Street, and New Gorham Road. The two routes run parallel to one another for about a mile, with Route 25 running on William Clarke Drive and Route 25 Business running on Main Street. The routes continue this way until reaching the Westbrook Arteral, which Route 25 turns onto to bypass the city to the south, towards Exit 47 of the Maine Turnpike. Route 25 Business continues through Westbrook along Main Street, turning southeast to continue on Main Street in the middle of the city. The route continues a short distance into Portland before re-intersecting Route 25, which approaches from the south on Rand Road to resume its old alignment.

History

The route was commissioned upon the construction of the Westbrook Arterial in the 1970s, which bypasses to the south carrying Route 25's mainline. The original eastern terminus was at Main Street & Larrabee Road in Westbrook. 25 Business was extended east into Portland in 2006-7, receiving the portions of Main Street & Brighton Ave vacated by Route 25's relocation onto the Westbrook Arterial and Rand Road.
