Maikoti village is on the way to Narendra Singh Bhandari motar marg on Pokhri motar line, 18 km away from District Headquarter Rudraprayag. Rudraprayag, a place where the holy river Madakani flowing from holy shrine Shri Kedarnath and river Alaknanda originating from Shri Badrinath Ji are meeting together at this place and forms river Alaknanda.

The village Maikoti, is the land of goddess Maa Padmavati, Shri Narsingh ji and Shri Rawal Devta ji. This village is famous in the Garhrwal region for its culture, heritage, religion and education. It is the only village in this region where the literacy rate is more than 90% and in each family, there are more than two Post Graduate members. Being the whole village of higher caste brahmins, every one follows a high standard of religious rites. The main castes in this village are as follows:

  3. Uniyal
  4. Nautiyal
  5. Joshi
  6. Thapaliyal
  7. Pradali.

Uniyal family has set up an example for education and high class profile since British period. Pandit Moti Ramji Uniyal had been a dedicated educationalists from 1929-1942 under the British Commissionery school, Messmore at Pauri Garhwal, His younger brother Pandit Hari Vallabh Ji Uniyal, an alumnus from Roorkee College of Engineering in 1939 became the first Civil Engineer, and dedicated his expertise to Uttar Pardesh irrigation department for four decades. It is to be appreciated that the youngsters of Uniyal family are maintaining the same spirit of there ancestors as there are engineers, scientists, naval engineers , educationalists and corporate heads and all have set up an example being first in every field in their generations.
