Mahyad Tousi is an Iranian-American filmmaker, producer, and cinematographer. He lives in Brooklyn, New York. He is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of BoomGen Studios, a motion picture company that focuses on entertainment content and media about the Middle East and the greater Muslim world. He founded BoomGen with Reza Aslan in 2007. Before this, he worked on a number of projects, including the dark comedy Marvelous, starring Amy Ryan, Ewen Bremner, Mike Shannon, Martha Plimpton, and Annabella Sciorra. He also produced the comedy-drama Looking For Palladin, starring Ben Gazzara, Talia Shire, Pedro Armendáriz, Jr., Angelica Aragon, and Vincent Pastore.
Mahyad was also one of the four cameramen who shot in the Himalayas for Lucy Walker's acclaimed documentary Blindsight. He also was the cinematographer for John Walter's Some Assembly Required, as part of the First Amendment Project produced for Court TV and the Sundance Channel. He has also been cinematographer for a number of other TV pilots and reality series.
Mahyad has been working with video artist Mika Rottenberg for the last three years. He was the cinematographer on the works celebrated titles: Cheese shown at the Whitney Biennial (2008) and Fried Sweat for photographer Marilyn Minter's show tilted Sweat. According to his facebook page, he is currently working on the next project with Rottenberg, due out in 2010.
Mahyad shot, directed, and produced the PAAIA documentary profiles with Rudi Bakhtiar for the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans, featuring: Maz Jobrani, Pardis Sabeti, Firouz Naderi, Omid Kordestani, and Leila Vaziri.
He has worked in all aspects of the film industry, with credits that include Assistant Director, Producer, Associate Producer, Cinematographer, Cameraman, and Actor.
