After the Sri Lankan Army occupied all the areas in the East which were under LTTE control, most of the LTTE cadres left the organization or fled to north. However, some fled to areas of jungle in the South-East of Sri Lanka. It is these LTTE cadres who were responsible for the massacre of Sinhalese in rural areas of Buttala and Yala.
