- Magical nanny
-
In fiction, a magical nanny is a character who uses unorthodox or eccentric methods, which may or may not include actual magical powers, to care for a family's children, and who often facilitates the resolution of social problems within the family, bringing its members closer together. This resolution sometimes includes becoming part of the family permanently, with the nanny marrying a widowed employer. As with real-life nannies, both male and female characters are represented, although female characters are predominant. Well-known examples of magical nannies include Mary Poppins, Nanny McPhee (the film version of the title character of the Nurse Matilda books), and the nanny in The Sound of Music, a fictionalized version of the memoirs of the real-life Maria von Trapp.
