Jerónimo de Loayza González, O.P. (1498 – October 25, 1575) was a Spanish Dominican missionary and the first Roman Catholic archbishop of Lima.
Biography
Jerónimo de Loayza was born in 1498 in Trujillo, Spain. He was appointed the first bishop of Cartagena on December 5, 1537; he was consecrated on June 29, 1538.[1] On May 13, 1541, he was appointed the first archbishop of Lima, Peru, assuming that position on February 12, 1546. He was, notably, an episcopal consecrator of Bartolomé de las Casas, as well as Juan Solano.[1] He died on October 25, 1575.[1]
