The dukedom was posthumously bestowed on José Antonio Primo de Rivera, founder of the Falangist movement, by Francisco Franco.
Due to the fact that José Antonio had no children the title was adopted by his younger brother Miguel and subsequently, for the very same reason, it was adopted by his nephew Miguel Primo de Rivera y Urquijo.[1]
