Music has been a tradition in her family (with both her father and grandfather having worked as performers) - and music was a focal point in her upbringing. In Nashville, she attended Harpeth Hall - a girls' school with a national clientèle and a strong performing arts program, countingAmy Grant andReese Witherspoon among its alumnae.In 2002, at the age of 14, she was one of seven finalists (chosen by music industry professionals) at the second annual Nashville Grammy Showcase, hosted by the Nashville Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS).
