The Dominican Province of Ireland founded the DBI in 2000 to engage in advanced biblical research, training and teaching.

The goals of the Dominican Biblical Institute include:

  • to advance biblical research
  • to promote global dialogue, especially between the Bible and science with other disciplines, especially literature and science
  • to bring fresh energy to applying the Bible to daily life (lectio divina), thereby bringing biblical research to street level

Focus

The Dominican Biblical Institute offers classes for lay people, occasional lectures and collegiate modules throughout the year. The ultimate focus of the DBI is pastoral, engaging with surrounding communities: schools and colleges, church groups and the general public. The current director of the DBI is Thomas L. Brodie, O.P.
