The Dodgeville Municipal Airport was an airfield in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. The only surviving airport in Iowa County is in Mineral Point, Wisconsin.
History
The Dodgeville Municipal airport was a general aviation airport in the Town of Dodgeville, located just north of the city of Dodgeville. The airport was built between May–December 1967. It was originally named Governor Dodge Quinn Airport and depicted with an unpaved runway. It was a public airport. Within the next three years it was renamed to Dodgeville airport, and in the Milwaukee Sectional charts, it was depicted with the courtesy of a 2800 paved runway. One of the most amazing landmarks of the Dodgeville Municipal airport is its only current resident Boeing C-97G. When the plane landed it barely fit on the small runway, creating a massive cloud of dust. The plane still sits in front of the Don Q inn, which is directs next to the airport. Unfortunately the Dodgeville airport closed in 1990, but was later reopened as a small private airport. It currently occupied by a construction company, and the runway is used for equipment storage. It is still listed as a private airfield.[1]
