Disability Pride Parade is an annual event held in Chicago, Illinois. The first Disability Pride Parade was held on July 18, 2004, and has been held each July subsequently. The parade steps off at Plymouth and Van Buren in downtown Chicago and is followed by a festival in Daley Plaza, including disability themed vendors, speakers, and entertainment.
The Disability Pride Parade defines its mission as: "To change the way people think about and define “disability”; To break down and end the internalized shame among people with Disabilities; and To promote the belief in society that Disability is a natural and beautiful part of human diversity in which people living with Disabilities can take pride.
