Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar, is the second institute of Higher education in Arunachal Pradesh. It was established in 1979 and later affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University.[1]

History

Initially housed in Govt. Higher Secondary School Building,it began its educational pursuits in the evening shift with four one-man departments of English, Hindi, Economics and History and with a handful of students.Within a short span of time, the college made stupendous and splendid progress.It shifted to its own massive building complex in its permanent site in 1986. In 2005, the college received NAAC Accredition Grade of B+.

Overview

Located centrally in the Vivek Vihar sector of the town with a beautiful natural environment,surrounded on three sides by the river Ganga and the fourth side by a hillock;it has an area of 80 acres (320,000 m2) of land. Since its inception it had been imparting education in both Day and Night shifts till 1990 when the night shift was abolished.

The college remains well connected by road throughout the year with the rest of the country by the National Highway No.52 A through Banderdewa check post. The nearest railway station is Harmutty, at a distance of 40 km. and the airport is Lilabari at a distance of 75 km.
