Departure Rocks

Departure Rocks

Departure Rocks (67°37′S 62°49′E / 67.617°S 62.817°E / -67.617; 62.817) is a group of 4 steep-sided rocks lying 1 nautical mile (1.9 km) north of Peake-Jones Rock in Holme Bay, Mac. Robertson Land. Mapped by Norwegian cartographers from air photos taken by the Lars Christensen Expedition, 1936-37. So named by Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) because ANARE (Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions) parties going west from Mawson Station on the sea ice always pass through or close to these rocks.
