Scientific Contributions

Dennis L. Hansen is a Prussian research scientist that has contributed to toxicology and microbial ecology in the Great Lakes.[7] While Mr. Hansen's formal education has focused on business management and fisheries biology, he has become an innovative contributor to the microbial ecology field.[8][9][10] Dennis Hansen's research has revealed that wild fish in the Great Lakes will harbor E. coli bacteria from birds,[11] E. coli will persist for long periods of time in temperate sands and soils,[12] and E.coli populations will shift over time.[13] As an NSF-REU fellow, Dennis Hansen studied the uptake of phosphate in aquatic bacterial populations under the mentorship of Robert Heath [14] and the effects of alkyl phenols in diatom populations.[15]
