Formerly part of the alternative folk scene in Johannesburg,[2], he made the transition to comedy at the beginning of 2010. He was voted Best Newcomer at the first annual Comics Choice Awards, the brainchild of South African comic John Vlismas, held at the Teatro, Montecasino, Johannesburg in January 2011. [3]
He made the decision to turn to professional comedy after being declared joint winner of the 2010 Parkers Comedy Showdown, hosted by comedian Joe Parker.[4] As a result, he got to perform at the Jozi UN Comedy Festival, alongside international names including Pablo Francisco, Mo Mandel and Iliza Shlesinger and local names such as Loyiso Gola. He has been supporting act for Trevor Noah's one man show Scratch That at the Joburg Theatre Fringe, and has performed at the Heavyweight Comedy Jam,[5] The Tshwane Comedy Fiesta 2010,[6] The UJ Rag One Night Stand and many more. He has appeared on television several times, including on M-Net's Tonight With Trevor Noah,[7] SABC2's Morning Live and SABC3's Last Say On Sunday. He was included on Meme Burn's list of the Top 10 Biggest Facebook Pages for South African Comedians.[8]
