Debra Young Maggart (born 11 October 1960) is an American politician and the Republican Caucus Whip of the Tennessee House of Representatives. She was elected to represent the 45th district, which is part of Sumner County.[1]
Biography
A graduate of Western Kentucky University, she is currently pursuing a degree in alternative dispute resolution from Lipscomb University's Institute of Conflict Management. Rep. Maggart is a Rule 31 Listed Mediator in the field of General Civil Mediation under Rule 31 of the Rules of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
She was first elected as a state representative to serve in the 104th Tennessee General Assembly. In addition to serving as the Republican Caucus Whip, Rep. Maggart serves on the House Finance, Ways and Means Committee; the House Health and Human Resources Committee; the House Professional Occupations Subcommittee; the House Public Health and Family Assistance Subcommittee; the Joint Select Committee on Children and Youth; and the Joint Long Term Care Oversight Committee.[1]
She believes that homosexual couples are unfit to parent and have "numerous emotional dysfunctions and psychological issues."[2]
