South African Internet Exchange
- South African Internet Exchange
The South African Internet eXchange (SAIX) is an Internet exchange point which serves Internet traffic in Southern Africa. SAIX allows local Internet service providers (ISPs) and network operators to easily exchange traffic within Southern Africa, while improving connectivity and services for their customers.
The SAIX website states: "Specialising in the provision of Tier 1 Access, SAIX prides itself on being the Internet Access Provider of choice to the majority of South African's dial-up Internet Service Providers, thanks to world-class networking technology, as well as specialists who build, manage and maintain our national and international IP network."
SAIX is run by Telkom, a semi-privatised South African company. At present, SAIX provides service to two thirds of South Africa's ISPs.
