- David Miller (physician)
-
David Miller (Dr.) is a pioneer in the home birth movement in Australia. He was the only rural doctor ever to practice home birth in Australia. As well as practicing at home, with a cohort of loyal midwives, Dr. Miller adapted the water-birth techniques of Michel Odent to a hospital setting.[1]
At one stage home birth became acceptable in Australia, but growing concerns and insurance-driven conservatism has once again driven home birth underground. Dr. Miller believes that this is a dangerous development as trained home-birth has turned to free-birth, which goes on without professional help and is a life threatening danger to both babies and mothers.[2]
Dr. Miller has written a number of books and articles; "Birth At Home" Doubleday 1990, and is a regular contributor to "GP Speak" and "The Byron Shire Echo."
