Following studies in Oxford, and then work as the assistant academic registrar for international programmes at the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies (which focused on the development, initial delivery and quality assurance of theology degrees in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe), David John moved to Perth, Western Australia where he worked in parishes[2][3] and as a regional development officer[4] in the Anglican Diocese of Perth.
David John is a gregorian friar and priest living his religious vows as a member of the Brotherhood of St Saint Gregory,[5] and is currently the diocesan ministry development officer in the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle,[6] New South Wales, where he has a particular focus on resourcing the organization of lay people for local engagement. He is also the founding director of the Newcastle School of Theology for Ministry,[7] in which contextual theology and situation analysis are core components of all of the programmes offered to participants. He continues to offer educational consultancy internationally. He is a member of the international reference panel of the Freire Institute.[8]
