David Philip Hefti (born 1975), winner of the prestigious Gustav Mahler Competition and of the George Enescu Competition, studied at the Conservatories of Winterthur, Zurich and Carlsruhe, taking composition, conducting, clarinet and chamber music. His mentors included Wolfgang Rihm, Cristóbal Halffter, Wolfgang Meyer, Rudolf Kelterborn and Elmar Schmid. He has appeared at the festivals 'Musica de Hoy' in Madrid, Pablo Casals in Prades, EuroArt in Prague, 'Beijing Modern', 'music today 21' in Tokyo and as the 'artist in residence' at the International Music Biennale in São Paulo. He has worked with soloists such as Fabio Di Càsola, Thomas Grossenbacher, Thomas Indermühle, Wolfgang Meyer, Sylvia Nopper, Primoz Novsak, Oliver Schnyder, Stefan Tönz and with conductors such as David Zinman, Ralf Weikert, Jac van Steen, Michael Sanderling, Krzysztof Penderecki, Cristóbal Halffter, Howard Griffiths ant Peter Eötvös. Hefti's work has brought him together with orchestras such as the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Sinfonietta, the Ensemble Calliopée in Paris and the Collegium Novum Zürich.
