David Faulkner CB is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford Centre for Criminological Research and worked for over 30 years at the Home Office.

  • 1990-92 Principal Establishment Officer

Subsequent Posts

When he left the Home Office, he became a Fellow of St John's College, Oxford (1992 - 1999), before being appointed as a Senior Research Associate at University of Oxford.

He was a member of the United Nations Committee on Crime Prevention and Control, and of the Helsinki Institute for Crime Prevention and Control during the 1980s. He led the United Kingdom's delegation to the United Nations Congresses on Crime and Criminal Justice in 1985 and 1990. He is, or has been, a trustee, member of council, or adviser to several voluntary organisations concerned with law reform, community safety and opportunities for young people. They include JUSTICE, the Mental Health Foundation, the Howard League for Penal Reform (of which he was Chairman from 1998–2002), and the Thames Valley Partnership.

In 1985 he was appointed Order of the Bath (CB).

His brother is Lord Faulkner of Worcester, a Labour member of the House of Lords.
