Darryl Smith (Born March 3, 1987 in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada)is an ice hockey center who is currently in training camp with the Atlanta Thrasher's. [1] His first professional season was the 2008-09 season where he played with the Laredo Bucks of the CHL, and 4 games for the Houston Aeros of the AHL. He played five seasons of Major Junior hockey for the Guelph Storm and for the Gatineau Olympiques in the OHL and QMJHL.[2]
In 2008-09 he scored 70 points in 60 games for the Laredo Bucks alongside Jeff Bes. He was called up to the Houston Aeros late in the season, but did not manage to get any points in the 4 games he played. In 2009 he was invited to the Atlanta Thrasher's Prospect Tournament where he scored 1 goal and 2 assists in 4 games. He scored his only goal against NHL Prospect Thomas McCollum, both of his assists came off goals scored by first round draft pick Evander Kane.
